Blue skies

When you're waiting for the kettle to boil, mail to arrive or other inspiration to strike - do you ever wonder what other people are doing at that exact moment? If I am having a really lazy day - you know the kind, when you're still in your pyjamas after lunch - I can normally shame myself into getting dressed and out the door by thinking of how I am wasting a day compared to the likes of Warren Buffett, Tiger Woods or Anna Wintour.

The Formula 1 Grand prix this weekend is being held in Monaco. Whilst it's not my favourite track of the F1 calendar, there's still something special about Monaco with its F1 history, the annual drivers dinner hosted by the King and the decadent buildings all round the track. I also love that it is a street course so everyone drives on it for the remaining 51 weeks of the year. There's something pleasing in thinking that they are the same roads that Maxmillian de Winter drove in Rebecca - I inted one day to drive round them myself - hopefully in a Bugatti Veron!

Watching it on TV, all you can see in the background are these fabulous yachts docked in the harbour full of people wearing Ray Ban Clubmasters sipping champagne.

How come our Saturday mornings are so different?

  1. Sounds like a lovely saturday to me. Unfortunately I am at work. I try not to work saturdays, but I do it for friends. Oh well, today it's cloudy and intermittantly spitting rain. Have a great weekend!

  2. I see Button has won pole. There is something exciting and decadent about the Monaco GP. One day when I win Euromillions....

  3. I do..think about what people are doing at the exact same thing! One of my recurring thoughts is this:

Me at the airport getting ready to board a flight off to a fun trip, while the others are going back home.

    And the opposite:

Me one my way home just waiting to chill and rest, cannot IMAGINE tugging a bag, checking in, sitting up in my assigned seat with no leg space.

Oh and I watch people all the time (subways, airports, road) etc wondering where they are going, what they are thinking, etc.

  4. I studied abroad in France last year and we were in Monaco the weekend before the races...somehow we ended up on the finish line whilst wandering around aimlessly (I'm pretty sure we weren't supposed to be there!).
I'd never thought about having a boat before spending the day in Monte Carlo...by the end of the day it seemed like a very good idea ;)

  5. I'm afraid I live too much in my own head to be wondering what others are doing on my lazy Sat/Sun mornings!

But I do spend time wondering about what other people are thinking when I'm travelling. With the headphones in my ears I look at the people around me on the bus/train/plane and like to imagine things about them...

Mmmm... that last comment... I'd love to have a sailboat!!! But what most people don't realise about sailboats is that the most expensive thing isn't really the boat, it's the upkeep! You have to be able to afford berthing space in the marine (which can be prohibitively expensive depending on where you live) and then there's the maintenance... boats are lots of work! I've decided that the best thing is really to have a good friend with a sailboat... much more enjoyable! Now I just need to find one myself... ;o)
